Manicure Monday: Glitter Explosion over Orange

Manicure Monday is so fun this week! I’ve got two fun polishes, Wet ‘n Wild’s Orange Smoothie and Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer‘s St. Nick’s Sweet Treats. I love these together so much. I have on three coats of Orange Smoothie, one brushed coat of Sweet Treats on my accent nails, and one coat of Seche Vite.

IMG_81722

IMG_81822

Orange Smoothie is a sheer orange with golden shimmer. I like it, for the most part: the consistency was about average, and it dried pretty quickly with a nice shine. The brush was stupidly wide and made a mess, so application wasn’t terribly easy. It is still pretty sheer; I can see my very thin nail line through three coats of it. However, it looks so nice when the light hits it that I don’t even care.

IMG_81942

IMG_82012

St. Nick’s Sweet Treats is a veritable glitter explosion. It completely makes this manicure. This is the glitter topper to end all glitter toppers. The glitters are mostly white, red, and gold, with smaller glitters in different colors and silver micro-flakies. I am not exaggerating when I say there is a little of everything in this bottle. It applies beautifully; what you see here is one brushed coat. There was no dabbing here, no blobbing, no sponging, no nonsense. The lacquer-to-glitter ratio is perfect. I had no trouble with this at all.

Unfortunately, it stormed all day, and so I don’t have any gorgeous sunlight photos to post. I know this would be a stunner outside for sure.

Swatch Saturday: Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer’s Monster’s Tea at Tiffany’s

I love today’s swatch! This is Monster’s Tea at Tiffany’s from Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer; it’s a Tiffany blue polish with green-to-red shifting shimmer. I’m wearing three coats with one coat of Seche Vite.

IMG_80112

IMG_80192

IMG_80302

IMG_81682

Monster’s Tea at Tiffany’s is a really easy polish to work with. The consistency is just right, and it dries quickly to a semi-matte finish. Full opacity is acheived after two coats. All you need here is a top coat to bring out the shimmer.

IMG_80402

IMG_80472

IMG_80522

IMG_80602

What sets this polish apart from any other old Tiffany blue is the shifting shimmer. At most angles, generally when the light is behind you, you’ll see green. You’ll see the red when the light is in front of you. Mind you, I’m using studio lights to capture the green shimmer, and regular CFL lighting in my office to get the red. I could not manage to get the shift in the studio at all.

IMG_81352

IMG_81532

Because the light is everywhere outdoors, the shimmer doesn’t lean one way or the other, at least not in photos. The green is easy to see, but the shift, while it does appear to occur, is not very strong. The color itself, though, stands out beautifully. It is absolutely gorgeous out there.

I love this polish. I love walking from room to room and seeing my nails change.

Monster’s Tea at Tiffany’s is, as of my writing this, currently available from the BEGL shop, but stock is very low. Do yourself a favor and pick up this polish. It’s such a fun twist on a classic color, and you really need to see it to believe it.

Swatch Sunday: Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer’s Is That a Technical Term, Jiggery Pokery?

So my swatch this week is something I’ve been dying to wear since I got it. It goes by the name Is that a Technical Term, Jiggery Pokery? (and will henceforth be referred to Pokery); it’s described by Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquers as “hot pink jelly base with silver, pink, and hot pink holo glitters”. What’s not to love? Then this happened:

Nail vs. Dryer door handle.

Nail vs. Dryer door handle.

So, on my freshly-clipped nubbins, I give you Pokery in what’s left of its hot pink majesty. I’m wearing three coats with one coat of Seche Vite.

Pokery is probably my favorite BEGL offering thus far. Look at the plethora of glitters in here; there are so many I can’t really even identify them all. I just know there are tons of butterflies, tons of stars, tons of shining silver hexes. It’s magical. Even though the colors don’t vary much, there’s still a lot of glitter diversity with all the different finishes. No nail looks exactly the same, because no two nails have the same glitters on them. I love that.

IMG_78632

In the sun, you can see the glitter variety better. The pink jelly stands out less, and the glitter shapes more.

IMG_78792

IMG_78862

For now, Pokery isn’t available from the BEGL store, but I heard a rumor it’s coming back with a new Doctor Who collection in September. Definitely stay on the lookout for it, you need this.

I hate how short my nails are now. I still can’t believe it just ripped off at the base like that. This is what my nails looked like when I was a biter, and it’s not a look I care much for. They were the perfect length a day ago, and now they’re this. Regardless of my nail length, I’m super excited to be wearing this polish. Nails will grow back, after all.

Swatch Saturday: Blue Eyed Girl Lacquer’s Don’t Worry, I Don’t Bite

This Saturday, I’m wearing Don’t Worry, I Don’t Bite from Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer. This is another beauty from the Once More With Feeling collection that was released last August. It’s a gray linear holo, shown here at three coats with one coat of Seche Vite. Photos were taken indoors and outdoors.

Don’t Worry, I Don’t Bite is a gorgeous polish. It applies very easily, dries quickly, and the holo effect is vibrant and powerful, even in indoor lighting. The only thing I regret is that it’s mostly cloudy outside and my outdoor shots are not fantastic. I assure you, this is absolutely stunning in the sunlight, but right now it’s not very sunny at all. It’s disappointing.

Sorry this post is kind of short. I feel like this polish speaks for itself. Also I have soccer to watch.

Swatch Saturday: Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer’s Birthday Wishes

Swatch Saturday is back! This weekend I’m wearing Birthday Wishes from Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer, a royal blue with pink shimmer. As usual, I’m wearing three coats with top coat. Photos were taken in both indoors and outdoors. I’ve wanted to try this one for a long while now, so let’s take a look.

IMG_50382

IMG_50452

IMG_50542

IMG_50572

I love how this turned out. In the bottle, especially in my office where the lighting is lower, the blue polish with the pink shimmer makes it look purple. I don’t get that effect on my nails in the studio, but I definitely do in other lighting conditions. In the studio, the shimmer isn’t as potent, but outside it’s vibrant and strong. It’s a really cool effect; my nails look different everywhere I go.

IMG_50642

IMG_50692

IMG_50722

IMG_50802

The formula was a little worrisome at first; the first coat was barely-there thin, and I wasn’t totally sure I was going to get even coverage. It looks fantastic in three coats, though. It’s even and opaque. I love wearing this.

IMG_50852

IMG_50902

IMG_50962

On a side note, I bought a ton of polish while I was on vacation. I had to visit drugstores a lot during the trip, and grabbed one or two whenever I stopped in, especially if I saw some things I’d never seen anywhere else. I got a few new brands, shopped at stores for the sake of shopping there, and did some indie shopping while I was bored in train stations. I think I ended up with about 60 bottles by the time I got home. As a result, I may be taking a quick break from my BEGL swatch streak, just to fill in the gaps in the Polish List. I’ve got a couple more BEGLs in the pipeline, but I’ve also got these American Apparel neons I can’t wait to try. See you next week!

Swatch Saturday: Blue Eyed Girl Lacquer’s Out. For. A. Walk… BITCH.

I’m really excited about this week’s Swatch Saturday. It’s red, it’s holo, and it’s absolutely beautiful. It’s Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer’s Out. For. A. Walk… BITCH. I’m wearing three coats of it under two coats of Seche Vite.

BEGL described this as a blood red linear holo, but I don’t think it looks very red on me. It’s more like a raspberry, or a burgundy. In any case, I have nothing to say about this polish but gushing and incoherent mumbling. Just look at the pictures and mumble with me.

IMG_46712

In the studio, the holo rainbow is quite strong compared to some other holos I’ve reviewed recently. Usually I don’t get a visible spectrum in the studio like I do here. Even indoors, the holo effect is stunning. I can’t believe there was ever a time I didn’t like holos. I was so wrong. I am so sorry. This next set of photos was taken outdoors in sunshine. This is the good stuff. Look at all this holo goodness! Also, the redness is much more apparent in the outdoor photos. It looks less like a berry or burgundy out here.

I have nothing else to say about this polish, other than I am dead. Also, unfortunately, it’s been discontinued. Hopefully you’ll get lucky and find it somewhere. If not, BEGL is restocking a lot of the gorgeous holos from the Once More With Feeling collection, the Buffy-inspired collection this one is from, on May 17. Get on that.

One more thing: this is the last Swatch Saturday for a couple of weeks; I’m taking somewhat of a hiatus while I go on vacation. I’ll try to keep up with Manicure Monday while I’m travelling, but apart from that, I won’t be doing any more swatches until June. See you then!

Swatch Saturday: Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer’s Watch the Walls

For Swatch Saturday this week, I’m wearing a neon glitter explosion from Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer called Watch the Walls. I’ve got one thick coat of it over Essie’s Fiji, Navigate Her, and Mint Candy Apple. It’s like there’s a party on my nails, we invited the president for funsies, and he actually showed up. I absolutely adore BEGL glitter toppers because they’re so fun. They really are like dance parties.

I think my cuticle oil melted the logo off the bottle. :(

IMG_43632

Watch the Walls is a clear glitter topper with loads of different glitters; there are so many I can’t list them all. There are stars and butterflies, dots and squares, hexes big and small. There’s even a blue-to-pink-shifting shimmer that adds the right amount of sparkle to an already visually stunning polish. While this polish wasn’t made for me, I almost feel like it was, because it has everything I love: bright colors, big shapes, tons of things going on at once. It’s perfect for me. I felt a little weird putting it on over pastels, though, but I think it works. It definitely looks great over Mint Candy Apple.

For once, I’m reviewing a BEGL that, as of my writing this, is still in stock in the BEGL store. Not only is it in stock, but it’s on sale! Grab it before it’s gone.

Swatch Saturday: Blue Eyed Girl Lacquer’s Floppy. Hoppy. BUNNIES!

I think this is going to be my favorite Swatch Saturday for a long time. I know I have a tendency to exaggerate, but Floppy. Hoppy. BUNNIES! is probably my favorite polish in the known universe, and I’m so glad I finally got to do a full mani with it. I used it as an accent for my birthday manicure last year, and I was so in love with it that I couldn’t wait to wear it on all my nails. This is three coats of Floppy. Hoppy. BUNNIES! with two coats of Seche Vite.

IMG_40632

IMG_40762

IMG_40872

IMG_40892

This polish is a glitter jackpot. Pretty much every shape, size, color, and texture of glitter is swimming around in this soft blue crelly: pink, green, blue, purple, iridescent, holographic, metallic, hexes, stars, butterflies, and probably still some more I haven’t noticed yet. There’s so much going on in it. It’s like beautiful chaos on my nails. The crelly itself is very sheer; the first coat was so sheer I could barely detect it, but built up as I kept applying it. This definitely works out for the best, because you can see the glitters from the first coat through the third, giving that lovely glitter sandwich look.

IMG_41042

IMG_41112

IMG_41302

Floppy. Hoppy. BUNNIES! reminds me why I got into indie polish. Every indie offers a fun, bold, and unique look that would be impossible to find anywhere else. I adore this polish in particular; it makes a huge statement, but does so in a charming, cheerful way, sort of like me. Unfortunately, this one had a very limited run, and quite rare since it’s been discontinued. If you’re lucky enough to find this in a blog sale or destash, do not hesitate to grab it.

Swatch Saturday: Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Prototype PDW1

I’ve been looking forward to swatching this ever since I got it. This is a prototype from Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer called PDW1. I got it cheap because the glitter sinks to the bottom. It was challenging to work with, but I’m very happy with my application. Also, I’m using my DSLR for nail pictures for the first time, so that’s fun, too.

IMG_36062

IMG_36192

IMG_36302

IMG_36392

PDW1 is a black jelly with fine silver glitter, silver hearts and stars, big red dots, and purple hearts. I’m wearing three coats of it here. As I mentioned, this one has a sinking glitter problem, so I left the bottle upside down for about an hour, and scraped the bottom with an orange stick to make sure I got it all off. Even then, I really had to dig for the shape glitters. The fine glitter distributes well. The first coat was so sheer that I started to worry; after three coats, the glitter from the first coat is barely visible, especially the purple and red shapes. I wasn’t sure about it until I put the top coat on; the top coat made everything come together.

IMG_36452

IMG_36492

I nicknamed this prototype COSMOLUST. I’m not sure why. Every black polish I name has something to do with space and/or sex. I think this is the polish that started the trend.

IMG_36672

IMG_36722

One unrelated thing: I don’t like mini bottles. This bottle is half-full now, and I’ve only used it once. I’m only going to get one more mani out of it. I’m kind of afraid I’ll never use it again because I won’t want to use it up. It’s also challenging to pose with them, but that’s not as important.

Swatch Saturday: Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer’s The Scoobies

Today’s Swatch Saturday is all about The Scoobies, a glitter topper from Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer. I’m wearing two coats of it over two coats of Essie’s Sand Tropez, I Am Strong, and Navigate Her.

100_46492

100_46522

100_46572

The Scoobies contains a ton of glitter: various sizes and shapes of red, copper, silver, and black hexes, red squares, holographic silver moons, red hearts, black stars, and shiny, tiny pink/purple sparkles. There’s a lot of fun in this bottle. As you can see, it’s only about half full. I’ve enjoyed this one many times since I bought it. I love the eclectic mix of glitter, the texture created by the fine sparkles, and the edgy color combination. I’m sad that I’m already running so low on it; I knew I should have bought a backup bottle when it was on sale.

The Scoobies was part of BEGL’s Once More With Feeling collection, a set of polishes inspired by Buffy the Vampire Slayer. As the collection was mostly holos, I admit I didn’t grab too many of those colors. I kinda regret it now. As you might guess, this collection has been discontinued, and the last bottle of The Scoobies sold a month or so ago. Check the BEGL store anyway, you might see something you’ll like.
