Swatch Saturday: Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer’s Zero Balance Dwarf Star Alloy

Happy Saturday, reader! Today’s swatch is a gorgeous one! I know I said last week’s BEGL swatch was the best BEGL holo to date, but this one is in a close second for sure! This week we’re talking about Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer‘s Zero Balance Dwarf Star Alloy; I’m wearing it at three coats with one coat of Seche Vite top coat. The following photos were taken in direct sunlight.

IMG_23252

Zero Balance Dwarf Star Alloy is a black linear holo with shifting shimmers. Application was great; it has the same velvety formula Void Stuff had; one that’s nearly opaque on the first coat, but isn’t thick or hard to control. This was very thin, almost drippy, but not quite, and went on very easily. It dried quickly with a satiny finish; I used top coat for shine and protection.

IMG_23272

IMG_23362

IMG_23402

This is the best black holo BEGL has ever made. It’s the blackest of the black; polishes like Don’t Worry, I Don’t Bite and Discontinued Limited Edition aimed for black, but were still a pretty silvery gray at the end result. This one has a great linear holo effect, but also manages to stay a rich, deep black. It’s the best black holo I’ve used so far.

IMG_23462

IMG_23512

IMG_23542jpg

The shimmers get lost a bit in the holo, but it’s fine. Being one of the darkest black holos ever, I can forgive it.

Zero Balance Dwarf Star Alloy has been discotninued by Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer; other BEGL polishes are available from their online shop.

I bought this polish myself.

Swatch Saturday: Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer’s Void Stuff

Happy Saturday, reader! I’m so excited to share today’s swatch with you, because it’s an incredible polish, possibly even my favorite BEGL holo to date! This is Void Stuff from Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer; I’m wearing three coats with one coat of Seche Vite top coat. All photos were taken outdoors in direct sunlight.

IMG_21062

IMG_21112

IMG_21172

IMG_21192

Void Stuff is a deep turquoise linear holo with color-shifting shimmers. Sometimes the shimmers appear pink, sometimes they disappear into the green polish. Application was so easy because the consistency is so smooth and velvety; though it was a bit thin, it glided right on and gave me near opacity on the first coat. The linear holo effect was a bit stronger in Void Stuff than in previous BEGL holos. It dries quickly and with an almost glossy finish; I used top coat for shine and extra sparkle.

IMG_21292

IMG_21312

IMG_21372

Though it’s a deep color, it’s very appropriate for the season! It’s the color of the happiest ocean. In the shade, the turquoise is still very vibrant and has a metallic finish, and in the sunlight, the holo is very intense. I could seriously look at this polish all day. I think it might look even better on the nail than it does in the bottle! It is summer happiness.

Void Stuff, unfortunately, has been discontinued by Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer. Other BEGL polishes are available at their online shop.

Swatch Saturday: Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer’s The Innuendo Squad

Welcome back to Swatch Saturday! I absolutely love today’s polish. This is The Innuendo Squad from Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer; I’m wearing three coats with one coat of Seche Vite top coat. Al photos were taken outdoors in direct sunlight (by the pool!).

IMG_16912

IMG_16972

IMG_17012

IMG_17052

The Innuendo Squad is a powder blue linear holo polish with silver shimmer. Application was very good; the consistency was thin enough to glide on, but thick enough to be very pigmented. I had near-opacity on the first coat. I had no issues at all with this polish. It dries quickly and with a satin finish; I used top coat for shine and extra holo goodness.

IMG_17172

IMG_17222

IMG_17262

I’m really enjoying this polish. The holo is on the softer side; there’s no crazy rainbow action here, but I’m okay with that. I feel like too much holo would spoil the beautiful color of this polish. The silver shimmer is really subtle as well, a soft addition you’ll miss if you don’t know it’s there. It’s very delicate, and very charming.

IMG_17342

IMG_17372

IMG_17422

Outdoors is where you’ll see the holo effect best, obviously. I think the shimmer might look best indoors, but the holo looks best out here for sure. Really, just the color of this polish is a huge win for me. The holo and shimmer are bonus.

I bought this polish myself.

Swatch Saturday: Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer’s 2000 Years

Happy Saturday! I have the most gorgeous microglitter to show you today! This is Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer‘s 2000 Years, part of the huge Doctor Who collection! I’m wearing three coats of 2000 Years with one coat of Seche Vite.

IMG_15062

IMG_15122

IMG_15192

IMG_15222

2000 Years is a clear-based periwinkle, silver, navy, and lilac microglitter polish. Application was easy; the first coat was sparse, but coverage built with additional coats. I could have gotten away with only two, but I really wanted the third, just to really solidify the glitter. It dried with a slight texture; I used top coat to smooth it out.

IMG_15292

IMG_15312

I love microglitters so much. BEGL makes all my favorites because they have the best color combinations. There are so many colors of glitter in this bottle, but you barely notice, because they blend together so organically. It blows my mind that there’s a person actively thinking “yes, these are the glitters”. It’s just consistently beautiful, every single one.

IMG_15382

IMG_15452

It comes alive beautifully in the sunshine! It’s crazy sparkly, and I felt so glamorous wearing this outdoors.

Manicure Monday: Floppy. Hoppy. BUNNIES!

Welcome back to Manicure Monday! Today, I’m wearing a favorite from my collection, Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer‘s Floppy. Hoppy. BUNNIES! I’m wearing three coats with Seche Vite top coat and Essie’s Matte About You matte top coat.

IMG_14432

IMG_14502

I love this polish so much; it’s so whimiscal and cute I could die. It’s one of my favorite indies, and it’s one of the cutest polishes I own. I like to think it might also be pretty hard-to-find, and that kind of excites me. It was the gift with purchase the first time BEGL’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer-inspired collection came out, and when it was re-released a couple years ago, it was replaced with a holo that was actually pretty stunning. It’s kind of sad to think it might never come back; as much as I love having HTF polishes, I feel bad that so many people missed out.

IMG_14562

IMG_14652

I needed a new matte top coat, so I finally decided to try Essie’s. The last time I looked for this, I was buying my first matte top coat ever, and they were just becoming popular. I ended up with the Revlon one because it was the only one my Walgreen’s had. I’m still struggling to embrace the matte finish, but I really like how it looks with this polish. The glitters still shine despite not being glossy, and the milky blue crelly looks like porcelain. I actually do have a few matte looks planned in the coming weeks, and I feel weird that I’m looking forward to them.

IMG_14692

IMG_14732

Sunlight photos! The pale blue got washed out in direct sunlight, looking more like a cool white in some photos. The glitters stand out very well though!

Swatch Saturday: Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Prototype DW 13.4

Welcome back to Swatch Saturday! Today I’m sharing with you a Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer prototype. I said last week that I’m getting back into the Doctor Who collection, and while this is true, I’m just wearing things in the order that I bought and received them, so the order is going to be a little mixed up. This prototype was purchased during an annual BEGL depression awareness fundraiser. This is Prototype DW 13.4; I’m wearing three coats with one coat of Seche Vite top coat.

IMG_12822

IMG_12882

IMG_12942

Prototype DW 13.4 is a white creme with a pink-to-gold shifting shimmer. Application was good; it’s sometimes hard to get complete coverage with a white creme until the third coat, and this one was no exception. I had streaks and bald spots until the very last coat I applied. Also, the white was a bit thick and completely overpowered the shimmer. You can see the shimmer in the bottle, but it gets completely covered up by the creme, making it look like a plain white creme. On the plus side, it dries quickly and has a really nice glossy finish.

IMG_12982

IMG_13022

So I like this polish, even though it didn’t really work as intended; I guess this is why it didn’t make it past the prototype stage. This has actually happened to me before with other white cremes with shimmer, indie and mass-market polishes alike. It’s always a shame, but it’s not like a white creme isn’t a good thing to have on hand. Get it, on hand, because nails. This polish will still get lots of love from me.

IMG_13102

IMG_13172

I took a couple of photos outside in direct sun; the shimmer was really strong in the bottle in the sun, so I thought that if it was going to show up on my nails, this would be the time. It didn’t.

You gotta look really hard.

You gotta look really hard.

There is only one bottle of DW 13.4 out there and I have it. Other BEGL polishes are available from their online shop.

I bought this polish myself.

Swatch Saturday: Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer’s Oy, Stupid Face

Happy Saturday! Last week, we finished up Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer‘s What Wouldn’t I Do collection, and we’re entering the second phase of the enormous Doctor Who collection! Good times! This week’s polish is Oy, Stupid Face; I’m wearing three coats with one coat of Seche Vite.

IMG_10772

IMG_10802

IMG_10842

ssbeglosfbc

Oy, Stupid Face is a bright pink crelly with flakies. Application was good; while most of the flakies were fine particles that laid flat on the nail, the larger ones were very coarse and did sometimes stick up. You can see this in some of the photos, and it’s my only real complaint with this polish. The crelly has really nice opacity, and really only needed two coats. It dries quickly and with a satin finish.

IMG_11002

IMG_11062

Even though the pointy flakies were kind of annoying, they absolutely glow in this polish, and I’m glad they’re there. The fine sparkles are beautiful as well, but the bigger ones have this deep iridescence that shines up through the layers. It’s crazy gorgeous.

IMG_11122

IMG_11172

The iridescence is especially evident in the sunshine. The finer flakies look best out here as well. These photos were taken in direct sunlight.

IMG_10452

The color looks a bit off in this one. My camera really struggles with bright pinks and oranges in the sunlight.

Swatch Saturday: Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer’s I Wished For You, Too

Swatch Saturday is here again! It’s the first one for almost a month. My swatch today is Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer‘s I Wished For You, Too, the last polish in the Practical Magic Halloween collection. After this polish, we move onto the next phase of the BEGL Doctor Who collection! I’m wearing three coats of I Wished For You, Too with one coat of Seche Vite top coat.

IMG_08662

IMG_08762

IMG_08812

IMG_08862

I Wished For You, Too is a deep purple with orange and green shimmers. Application was very good; the color is deep and well-pigmented from the first coat, and the shimmers are very well distributed. There was only some slight streaking on the first coat, and was completely opaque by the second. The polish dries quickly and with a satin finish.

IMG_08922

IMG_08952

Like the others in this collection, I Wished For You, Too is subtly Halloweeny. This polish may be the most subtle of them all. The base is vampy and dark; the purple looks navy in some lighting conditions, and the shimmers just whisper Halloween. You’d never know this was a holiday polish if you encountered it in, say, June. I’ve mentioned this in every post in this series, but every time, it’s true: BEGL makes the best holiday polishes because they do not resemble holiday polishes.

IMG_09042

IMG_09092

The following photos were taken in direct sunlight! This is where the purple is its purplest, and the shimmers stand out the best.

Swatch Saturday: Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer’s Belladonna

Happy Saturday! My Saturday swatch this week is Belldonna from Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer. This polish was a limited edition gift-with-purchase that was only available if you bought the whole What Wouldn’t I Do collection as a set. I’m wearing Belladonna over China Glaze’s Pelican Gray, Ciaté’s Electronica (pink), and Essie’s I’m Addicted (blue) and with one coat of Seche Vite top coat.

IMG_85992

IMG_86022

IMG_86092

IMG_86142

Belladonna is a clear-based glitter topper; the colors are primarily white and black with noen blue, green, pink, and yellow. Shapes include stars, flowers, bows, squares, and diamonds. Application was good; it was a bit tricky to spread the glitter evenly, because there’s just so much of it. While this means you can get too much glitter, it’s not very hard to get the bigger shapes. The product consistency was smooth and easy to manipulate with the brush. The polish dries quickly and with a bit of texture. I used top coat for smoothness.

IMG_86152

IMG_86222

I like Belladonna. I like the toppers that are largely white glitters with some color scattered in. The white means it can be worn over pretty much anything, and the small bits of color ensure you get a fun look. This does feel a bit like a take on the black and white glitter fad from a few years ago, but the range of added shapes and colors keep it fresh and current.

IMG_86272

IMG_86322

These photos were taken in direct sunlight. There’s no shimmer in this base, so there’s nothing that really comes to life in the sunshine. I took a ton of macros, though,  so you can really see the variety of glitters.

Swatch Saturday: Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer’s Amas Veritas Spell

Happy Saturday! This week we’re looking at another selection from Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer‘s 2014 What Wouldn’t I Do? collection. This is Amas Veritas Spell; I’m wearing three coats with one coat of Seche Vite top coat.

IMG_82202

IMG_82332

IMG_82342

IMG_82432

Amas Veritas Spell is an emerald jelly with green-to-blue shifting iridescent glitters. Application with this polish was very easy; the first coat of this polish had great color and coverage, and it just got better with additional coats. Indoors, the jelly seems dark enough to be opaque; though the glitter does shine nicely through, it’s a bit muted. The full jelly depth is visible outdoors in full sun; see photos. The shift occurs in any lighting conditions, through brighter ones return a better shift. The polish dries quickly and with a smooth satin finish; I used top coat for shine and to emphasize the glitter.

IMG_82572

IMG_82612

IMG_82832

I think I have to say this polish is my favorite from the collection. It doesn’t look like much in the bottle, but on the nail, it’s unexpectedly stunning. The jelly, though translucent, is still deep and rich. The glitter sparkles beautifully, and the color shift is bonus, really. There’s so much dimension and depth and sparkle, it’s kind of hard to take it all in and really appreciate it. My camera struggled a bit with that, as you can see. I don’t feel like I did this polish justice at all.

IMG_82682

IMG_82702

IMG_82902

In the sunlight, you can really see the jelly depth and glitter definition a bit better. I think the shift occurs better in sunlight, but it looks great nevertheless.
